MD5Summer is a Windows and other platforms program that allows you to calculate hash sums for files using the MD5 algorithm. In most cases, calculated hashes are output (you can save them to a file for further use). In other cases, the program checks the calculated values against the values stored in the file (this is convenient for mass verification of file integrity).

MD5Summer for Windows is most frequently used to verify that files are downloaded correctly over the network.

To understand how the program works, you must be at least superficially familiar with the theory. MD5 (Message Digest 5) is a 128-bit hashing algorithm developed by Professor Ronald L. Rivest in 1991. It is designed to create "fingerprints" or "digests" of messages of arbitrary length.

Hashing is the conversion of an input data array of arbitrary length into an output bit string of fixed size so that changes in input data lead to unpredictable changes in output data. Such conversions are also called hash functions or convolution functions, and their results are called hash, hash code, or message digest.
